In celebration of International Women’s Day, we are spotlighting the incredible women leaders at Alpadis. Today, we speak with Elena Arlotta, Group Executive Director at Alpadis (Switzerland), about her career journey, industry trends, and what it means to be a leader in tax and corporate services.

What inspired you to pursue a career in tax and corporate services, and what has kept you motivated along the way?

I was drawn to tax and corporate services because of my fascination with the intricacies of the law and its impact on business operations. The ever-evolving nature of tax regulations keeps me engaged, as there is always something new to learn. The satisfaction of helping clients navigate complex legal landscapes and achieve their goals is incredibly rewarding.

Can you share a defining moment in your career that shaped your leadership style?

One of the most pivotal moments in my career was leading a team in structuring a high-stakes international merger and acquisition deal. This experience required not just legal expertise but also strategic thinking and clear communication. It reinforced my belief in collaborative, decisive, and empathetic leadership—understanding the needs of all stakeholders and ensuring that every voice is heard.

What are some key trends shaping tax and corporate services in the next five years?

  • Digitalisation – AI and blockchain will streamline compliance and reporting processes.
  • Globalisation – Companies will need more expertise in cross-border tax issues and international structures.
  • Sustainability & ESG – Businesses will focus more on ESG compliance, affecting tax strategies and corporate governance.

How do you think women’s leadership brings unique strengths to this industry?

Women leaders bring empathy, strong communication skills, and a collaborative approach—qualities that foster inclusive work environments and drive innovation. These strengths help build strong teams and create a culture where diverse perspectives thrive.

Have you faced challenges as a woman in your industry, and how did you overcome them?

Like many women, I have faced gender bias and the challenge of balancing work and personal life. Overcoming these obstacles involved building a strong support network, seeking mentorship, and advocating for myself and others. Persistence and resilience have been key.

What does International Women’s Day mean to you, and how can businesses better support women in leadership?

International Women’s Day is a celebration of progress but also a reminder of the work still needed for true equality. Businesses can support women in leadership by implementing mentorship programs, promoting work-life balance, and ensuring equal opportunities for advancement. Creating an inclusive culture where women feel valued is essential for long-term success.
