As part of our International Women’s Day series, we speak with Vivian Chia, Director of Alpadis (Singapore). Recently promoted to director, Vivian shares her thoughts on leadership, the evolving corporate services landscape, and how businesses can better support women in the workplace.

What inspired you to pursue a career in corporate services, and what has kept you motivated along the way?

I was drawn to corporate services because of my passion for helping businesses operate more efficiently while gaining a wide range of skills. The field is diverse, covering everything from compliance and governance to strategic planning, which keeps my work exciting and fulfilling.

Can you share a defining moment in your career that shaped your leadership style?

A pivotal moment for me was leading a critical project that required cross-functional collaboration under tight deadlines. It taught me the importance of clear communication, empathy, and adaptability. My leadership style is now inclusive and supportive, ensuring that every team member feels valued.

What are some key trends shaping corporate services in the next five years?

  • Technology & Automation – The rise of AI will reshape how businesses manage compliance.
  • Employee Wellbeing – Companies are recognising that happy employees drive success.
  • Stronger Compliance – As regulations evolve, businesses must be more agile and forward-thinking.

How do you think women’s leadership brings unique strengths to this industry?

Women bring collaborative leadership, emotional intelligence, multitasking, and adaptability. These qualities create trust and respect in an organisation, which is key for long-term success.

Have you faced challenges as a woman in your industry, and how did you overcome them?

Balancing work and personal responsibilities has been challenging. Seeking advice, setting clear boundaries, and prioritising effectively have helped me maintain balance. Flexible work arrangements and resilience have been crucial.

What does International Women’s Day mean to you, and how can businesses better support women in leadership?

It’s a day to celebrate achievements and advocate for progress. Companies should focus on diversity policies, mentorship, leadership training, and creating an inclusive culture where all employees feel valued.
